Yes, I am already thinking about next years canoe trip. Let's have dates ready so no one can compain about not getting time off for it. :)
I for one am ready to just get a pontoon boat and float down in an easy chair :-D

My eye has fully recovered
To all who may be worried, my eye recovered quickly and full sight has been restored. Also, it should be noted that I did not dump my canoe once this year. God should be praised for these miracles.

Epic Canoe Trip '07 a Success!!!!
This years canoe trip was a success with almost no mishaps.
This years trip started out on Thursday for some of the guys. The rest of us met up with them on Friday as planned and we did still wait for an extra half hour past the said time of noon.
No one even sunk on take off like last year. :)
My weed whacker prop thing kind of worked, but didn't have enough torq or enough clutch power to work properly. Oh well, At least it finally got tested.
The weather was beautiful for the first day. Much sunscreen was needed. Shortly after lunch we saw my mom from the bike trail.
It was a typical day just paddling and watching the scenery.
We made it to the rope swing mid after noon when it was plenty warm enough to want to swim. This swing gives some epic huge air and good swing out over some large sharp rocks.
We made it to our 1st camp site in the early evening and got setup. We were joined here by Gordy, David, and Crazy Dave. Crazy Dave was a blast to hang out with. His opinions about everything were most entertaining. We decided later he could have an awesome call in radio station to rival Howard Stern.
There was a bit of yelling from the drunk locals, but overall an enjoyable nite.
Saturday proved to be another gorgeous day, although there was a wicked bad headwind that just made going forward a pain. If you stopped paddling you would actually be blown back upriver at 1.5mph.
There was more sun this day required many layers of SPF 45.

There came a stop mid day at Angel Falls to hide the newly started annual Epic Canoe Trip Geocache. When we got to the falls another person told us that a geocache had already been hidden near there last week. Doug hid ours anyhow, and I scored another find. The falls were not as impressive this year as they were last year. Still cool tho. At this stop we also learned a valuable and expensive lesson about boating. Always have life jackets, ID, and a whistle when in the water or it could cost you up to $170 and quick end of your trip.
Geocache hidden it was onward to find a campsite, which actually took a considerable amount of time and ended with us camping near the bike trail close to Emlenton. This was a smallish campsite with little firewood, but it worked. It just required some artful hammock hanging.
On the last day we just took it easy and didn't try real hard to go anywhere real fast. Except for Mike who does everything full throttle. :) We stopped at another rope swing on the way to Emlenton and did some more swimming.
I think all in all a good time was had by everyone. Feel free to check out all the pictures I took.

This years adventure!
The Epic Canoe Trip will again be a south run this year.
The river is too low to do a north run. No one wants to have to carry canoes.
We will be on the water by noon on Friday, July 13, 2007
We will be getting out in Emlenton on Sunday.
Every man is responsible for his own canoe, partner, and ride to and from the river. Use this blog to get connected with other people for this sort of thing.
I was originally going to have a 8 canoe hauler, but I don't think that will work out as my wife does not want to drive with it on. If someone would like to borrow it and tow it down that fine with me. Just call me.

After discussing things with another 6+1 point canoer, I decided to setup a blog for our Epic Canoe Trip.
This will aid in letting people know when and where and which way and that sort of thing and will be a stepping stone towards a system of deciding all the above mentioned items.
The Epic Canoe Trip has been been a tradition for almost a decade among the men from our rag tag group of friends. We would like to continue to see it be a fun way to relax and have a good time on the river.
We have devised a points system for use in voting matters that works as follows:
1 point for each year you have been on an Epic Canoe Trip
1 point if you own your own canoe
3 points for every 5 consecutive years
example: Someone who has been on 6 consecutive trips and own a canoe would have 6+1+3=10 points
When a vote needs to happen such as North or South trip, then each person can vote and the points will be tallied up. The vote with the most points will win. Simple.
